Everything you need to keep your DCM-1 running: LED reference, reset button, WiFi reset, FAQ, troubleshooting. If you can't find what you need, contact us.
The reset switch on the right side of the DCM-1 does two things.
Press EN once. The DCM-1 reboots, samples power / water / pads, and sends fresh status to your app within a few seconds. Use this any time you want the app to update immediately instead of waiting for the next hourly check-in.
If you moved the DCM-1 to a new WiFi network, changed your router password, or the DCM-1 stopped connecting to WiFi:
If the DCM-1 goes 24 hours without any successful WiFi connection, or 1,000 consecutive failed attempts, it clears its own WiFi credentials automatically and returns to setup mode. You'll see eight quick green flashes before it reboots. Then follow steps 4-6 above.
The DCM-1 has two LEDs on the right side: red (POWER) and green (STATUS). Three rules cover most situations:
These three run in order on every manual start. They never appear on routine scheduled check-ins.
| Order | Pattern | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Slow red flashes, pause, slow green flashes | Firmware version: red count = major, green count = minor. Example: 1 red + 2 green = v1.2.x. About 8 seconds. After a firmware update, this shows the NEW version. |
| 2 | 1 quick green | Firmware started successfully. |
| 3 | 5 rapid green | Startup check passed. |
| Pattern | What it means |
|---|---|
| Red slow pulse (continuous, 2 s on / 2 s off) | Waiting for WiFi setup. Join DCM-1-XXXX on your phone. The only continuous red pattern. |
| 10 quick green, then dark | Setup timed out (10 minutes) and the unit went to sleep. Press EN once to reopen setup. |
| Pattern | What it means |
|---|---|
| Green fast blink (continuous) | Connecting to your home WiFi. |
| 1 long green (300 ms) | WiFi connected. (Before firmware v1.2.10: 1 quick green.) |
| 5 quick green, then dark | Could not join WiFi within 15 seconds — wrong network or router down. Retries on next wake. |
| 2 quick red, then dark | WiFi is fine but the PianoCloud server was unreachable. Retries on next wake. |
| Pattern | What it means |
|---|---|
| Rapid green blink for 10 s after boot | WiFi-reset window is open. Press EN once now to clear WiFi credentials — or do nothing and it expires harmlessly. |
| 5 quick red | WiFi credentials just cleared. Setup mode next boot. |
| 8 quick green | Automatic recovery — the unit cleared its own WiFi after 24 hours without a successful connection. Setup mode next boot. |
| Pattern | What it means |
|---|---|
| 1 short green | Check-in complete, report delivered, all OK. |
| 2 quick green | Check-in complete, and a fault (power, water, or pads) is currently active. |
| 2 slow green | Check-in ran but the report did not reach PianoCloud. Retries on next wake. |
| Pattern | What it means |
|---|---|
| 3 rapid red right after wake | The unit woke itself because it detected a problem with the Piano Life Saver system. Check the app. |
| Pattern | What it means |
|---|---|
| 3 quick green | Firmware update command received. Download starts shortly. (Before v1.2.10: 2 quick green.) |
| Red ↔ green alternating (~1 Hz) | Firmware downloading (30-60 seconds). Do not press reset or remove batteries. |
| 4 quick green (after alternating pattern ends) | Update complete. Device rebooting with new firmware — watch for the new version in the boot flashes. (Before v1.2.10: 5 quick green.) |
| 5 slow red | Update refused — battery too low to flash safely. Replace the batteries. (v1.2.10+) |
| 3 slow red | Update postponed until the battery improves. (v1.2.10+) |
| Pattern | What it means |
|---|---|
| 10 very fast red flashes (mid-cycle, not at the end) | Battery critically low. Replace the 3× AA lithium batteries now. (Before firmware v1.2.10 this pattern was green.) |
| Pattern | What it means |
|---|---|
| 10 rapid green, pause, 3 long green | Support triggered "identify this unit" so it can be picked out among several. |
The DCM-1 is designed to run about one year on a fresh set of batteries.
Use 3× AA 1.5V Lithium only (Energizer Ultimate Lithium L91 recommended). Do not use alkaline or rechargeable batteries — they will not provide reliable operation across the DCM-1's temperature range and voltage requirements.
When battery voltage drops below a safe operating floor, the DCM-1 extends its sleep interval to conserve power. Your account (and any watcher techs you've invited) will be notified that the batteries need replacement.
No. The DCM-1 is a monitor only. It reads the status of your Piano Life Saver system but does not control, modify, or interfere with it in any way.
No. The DCM-1 runs on its own batteries. It sits between your PLS humidistat and the LED panel, but draws no power from either.
No. The DCM-1 uses patent-pending technology that preserves your Piano Life Saver system's warranty. Your H-5 humidistat plugs into the DCM-1, and the DCM-1 plugs into your LED panel — nothing is modified, cut, or spliced.
The DCM-1 keeps monitoring and reconnects automatically when WiFi is restored. You may see a gap in status updates during the outage, but no data is lost — the device reports its current status as soon as it reconnects.
The DCM-1 stops sending updates. Your Piano Life Saver system continues to operate normally — the DCM-1 is independent of the PLS. Replace the batteries and monitoring resumes.
Only if you have invited your technician as a watcher on your device. Your technician sees the same live status and alerts you do. Watchers can be invited or removed anytime from the app.
Approximately once per hour. If a fault is detected, you're notified within the hour.
Yes. Simply unplug the cables, install on the new piano's Piano Life Saver system, and (if the piano is in a different location) reset WiFi to connect to the new network.
The DCM-1 is compatible with Piano Life Saver systems that use the standard H-5 humidistat with the LED indicator panel.
Yes. Your device data is encrypted in transit and stored securely. Only you and the watchers you authorize can see your device status. PianoCloud does not sell or share your data.
| Symptom | Try |
|---|---|
| No status updates in app | Press EN once to force a fresh check-in. If that doesn't help, check that your router is on. |
| App shows device offline for hours | Battery may be low. Check the DCM-1: 10 fast red flashes confirms low battery. Replace with 3× AA lithium. |
| Power alert | Check that your Piano Life Saver is plugged in and its own power indicator is lit. |
| Water alert | Refill the Piano Life Saver water reservoir. |
| Pads alert | Contact your piano technician for pad replacement. |
| Can't connect to WiFi (green fast blink, then 5 quick green fail) | Password may be wrong. Reset WiFi (see above) and re-enter credentials. |
| Can't connect to WiFi (never connects) | Your router may be 5 GHz only. DCM-1 requires 2.4 GHz. Enable 2.4 GHz on your router or use a router that offers both. |
| DCM-1 not responding to EN press | Check the batteries. If they're fresh and the device is unresponsive, contact support. |
Firmware updates are delivered over-the-air automatically — no action required. When an update is pushed to your device, you'll see the sequence: 2 quick green (received), red ↔ green alternating (~30-60 seconds while downloading), 5 quick green (update applied), then the new firmware's boot version indicator.
Updates are only applied when battery voltage is high enough to complete the flash safely. If your batteries are low, the DCM-1 defers the update and will apply it after you replace the batteries.
